Based in Delhi (Noida), India, Gautam Sarup is heading the software development team for Asia Risk Centre.
Gautam brings 25 years of experience in software development as a developer and manager, including 10 years in Silicon Valley, California, US, where he developed software applications for Silicon Graphics and new internet venture companies. Gautam’s professional experience encompasses leading state-of-the art software tools and platforms since the mid-1990’s including internet and cloud applications with high performance computing platforms.
Gautam held several management positions in leading risk management and catastrophe modelling companies in India and the US. He was a lead software engineer at Risk Management Solutions (RMS) for more than 10 years where he was responsible for the development of major components of the first RMS enterprise-wide catastrophe risk assessment product. More recently, Gautam was vice president at Vidyatech, India, responsible across all IT and software operations teams and was Product Development Manager responsible for the development of products and the management of the development teams, including the transition of product development from the US to India.
Gautam holds a Bachelor in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Rajasthan, India, and a diploma in Systems Management from NIIT, Delhi, India.
Chief Executive Officer
Based in Singapore, Roman Hohl is the Chief Executive Officer of Asia Risk Centre.
Roman has worked in the reinsurance industry for 15 years and has extensive experience in developing new risk transfer schemes in agriculture and a solid understanding of developing catastrophe models. Roman worked at leading reinsurance companies including Swiss Re, Converium and Partner Re and has built with his team agriculture insurance schemes in corporation insurers in Brazil (Converium) and Vietnam (Swiss Re) and with government entities in China (Swiss Re) and Mongolia (Swiss Re). At Swiss Re, Roman built a corporate desk to develop risk transfer products for the agriculture commodity sector.
Roman serves as Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) of the National University of Singapore (NUS) in linking climate circulation models to physical crop models to test food security scenarios in Asia.
Roman received a Masters in Geography from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland and a PhD in Atmospheric Science from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. Based on his PhD thesis, he built a probabilistic hail model for Europe which is the industry standard to assess hail risk to insurance portfolios in Europe. Roman has received the prestigious award for the best PhD thesis in Switzerland in the field of natural hazards in 2001 from the Swiss Government.
Roman served three years as Adjunct Professor and Deputy Director of the Institute of Catastrophe Risk Management (ICRM) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore where he co-supervised a PhD student in weather index development for agriculture.
